Rather than producing a single arbitrary score, it generates pool relative rankings with confidence intervals for each dimension, giving hiring teams the granularity to make informed decisions.
the six dimensions were not chosen arbitrarily. they emerged from research on what actually predicts job performance across roles and industries. each one captures a distinct behavioral signal that a 15 minute adaptive interview can reliably measure. together, they form a complete picture of how a candidate thinks, communicates, and works with others.

cognitive reasoning measures how a candidate structures their thinking under pressure. it is not about having the right answer. it is about whether they decompose problems logically, identify assumptions, weigh tradeoffs, and build toward a coherent conclusion. this dimension is one of the strongest predictors of on the job performance across technical and non technical roles alike.

cognitive reasoning
Evaluates structured thinking, logical decomposition, and the ability to reason through ambiguous problems. The model looks for evidence of analytical depth: does the candidate identify the core constraint, consider edge cases, and explain their reasoning process?
what strong cognitive reasoning looks like
When asked how they would design a notification system for a large platform, a strong candidate said: 'The first question is volume. If we are sending ten notifications per user per day across five million users, that is fifty million events daily. So the architecture needs to be event driven, probably a queue based system. The second question is priority. Not all notifications are equal, so we need a tiering model before we build the pipeline.' They started with constraints, not solutions.
contrast that with a weaker response where the candidate jumps straight to "I would use Kafka and Redis" without first establishing the problem boundaries. the technology choice might be identical, but the reasoning path reveals whether the candidate can navigate problems they have never seen before.
domain knowledge assesses the depth and breadth of a candidate's expertise in their field. this is not a trivia test. the model evaluates whether the candidate has internalized the principles of their discipline and can apply them flexibly, rather than simply reciting definitions. a candidate who truly understands distributed systems, for example, will reason about consistency tradeoffs differently than someone who memorized the CAP theorem for an interview.

Measures the depth of technical or functional expertise and the ability to apply that knowledge to real scenarios. The model distinguishes between surface level familiarity and genuine understanding by probing how candidates connect concepts to outcomes.

A product manager candidate was asked about prioritization frameworks. Instead of listing RICE or MoSCoW by name, they said: 'In my last role, we had forty items on the roadmap and engineering capacity for maybe eight. I built a scoring model based on three inputs: revenue impact estimated by the sales team, engineering cost estimated by the tech leads, and strategic alignment scored by the founders. The model did not make decisions for us, but it made the tradeoffs visible. We shipped the eight items that had the highest expected value per engineering week.' That answer demonstrates applied domain knowledge, not textbook recall.
the behavioral assessment for domain knowledge adapts to the role. for an engineer, it probes system design and architectural reasoning. for a marketer, it explores campaign strategy and channel economics. the questions shift, but the evaluation principle stays the same: can this person apply what they know to problems they will actually face?
communication is measured throughout the entire interview, not in a single question. the model evaluates clarity of expression, the ability to structure a narrative, and whether the candidate adjusts their level of detail based on the complexity of the topic. a candidate who can explain a sophisticated concept in plain language without losing accuracy scores highly here. a candidate who uses jargon to obscure vagueness does not.

Assesses clarity, structure, and precision of expression across the full interview. The model evaluates whether the candidate communicates ideas in a way that would be effective in a team setting: organized thoughts, appropriate level of detail, and the ability to summarize complex points concisely.
what effective communication looks like
Asked to describe a project that failed, one candidate said: 'We tried to migrate our monolith to microservices in one quarter. Three things went wrong. First, we underestimated the data coupling between services. Second, we did not have observability tooling in place before we started splitting things apart. Third, I personally failed to escalate the timeline risk early enough because I was optimistic about the team's velocity. We rolled back after six weeks and restarted with a strangler fig approach. The second attempt took two quarters but succeeded.' Clear structure. Honest attribution. No filler.
communication matters because almost every role requires it. engineers explain tradeoffs to product managers. designers present rationale to stakeholders. sales people translate technical capabilities into business value. the dimension captures whether a candidate can do that transfer effectively.
behavioral indicators capture patterns in how a candidate approaches work: ownership, accountability, initiative, and self awareness. these are the signals that predict whether someone will thrive in a role or quietly disengage. traditional interviews try to assess this with questions like "tell me about a time you showed leadership." the problem is that candidates prepare rehearsed answers. the lambda CORE approach is different. it looks for behavioral signals that emerge naturally across multiple responses, not in a single scripted moment.

Without being prompted, they said: 'The launch underperformed because we optimized for feature completeness instead of activation rate. That was my call. I owned the launch plan and I prioritized the wrong metric. What I changed afterward was to define a single success metric before scoping any feature work. The next launch hit 140% of target because the entire team was aligned on one number from day one.' The model flags unprompted accountability as a strong behavioral signal.
the model also captures the absence of these signals. a candidate who consistently attributes failures to external factors, avoids specifics about their own contributions, or frames every outcome as a team success without personal accountability will score lower on this dimension. it is not about penalizing humility. it is about distinguishing genuine ownership from avoidance patterns.
collaboration assesses how a candidate works with others: cross functional teams, stakeholders with competing priorities, and peers who disagree. this dimension is distinct from communication. a candidate might express ideas clearly but still struggle to integrate feedback, navigate conflict, or build consensus. the model evaluates evidence of genuine collaborative behavior, not just the claim that "I am a team player."

Evaluates how the candidate works across teams, integrates competing perspectives, and navigates disagreements. The model looks for evidence of genuine collaborative outcomes: did the candidate build alignment, incorporate feedback, and produce results that required more than individual effort?
what genuine collaboration looks like
An engineering manager described a conflict between the platform team and the product team over API design. They said: 'The platform team wanted a generic API that served multiple use cases. The product team wanted a specific API that shipped faster. Both had legitimate reasons. I proposed we build the specific API first with an abstraction layer that the platform team could later generalize. We documented the contract between the two layers so neither team was blocked. It added about two days of upfront design work, but both teams shipped on schedule and the platform team later reused the abstraction for three other products.' That response demonstrates real collaboration: competing interests, a concrete tradeoff, and a result that neither team could have reached alone.
predictive hiring analytics consistently show that collaboration is one of the strongest indicators of success in roles that involve cross functional work. a brilliant individual contributor who cannot work across teams will underperform in most modern organizations. this dimension captures that signal directly.
adaptability measures how a candidate responds to change, ambiguity, and unfamiliar situations. this is especially important in high growth environments where priorities shift frequently and the problem space is not fully defined. the model evaluates whether the candidate has demonstrated the ability to learn quickly, adjust their approach when circumstances change, and maintain effectiveness when the ground moves beneath them.

Measures the candidate's response to change, ambiguity, and novel situations. The model assesses whether the candidate has a track record of adjusting to new contexts, learning unfamiliar domains quickly, and maintaining productivity when plans change.
what strong adaptability looks like
A data scientist was asked about a time they had to work outside their expertise. They said: 'My team was asked to build a fraud detection system, but none of us had experience in that domain. I spent the first week reading papers on anomaly detection in transaction data and talking to the compliance team to understand what patterns they were seeing manually. By week two, I had a baseline model running on historical data. It was not sophisticated, but it caught 60% of the cases the compliance team had flagged manually. We iterated from there and reached 89% recall within two months. The key was not waiting until I felt like an expert. I started building as soon as I understood the problem well enough to write the first query.' The candidate demonstrated comfort with ambiguity, rapid learning, and pragmatic execution.
adaptability is the dimension that separates candidates who will grow with a company from those who will plateau. in a startup, every quarter brings a new set of constraints. in a larger organization, reorgs and strategy shifts are constant. the candidates who score highly on adaptability are the ones who treat those changes as information, not obstacles.

score each dimension independently
every candidate receives a posterior estimate on each of the six dimensions. these are not point scores. they are distributions that express both the estimate and the uncertainty around it.
rank within the pool on each dimension
each candidate's score is compared to every other candidate in the same pool. the result is a pool relative position for each dimension. a candidate might be in the top 10% on cognitive reasoning and the 40th percentile on collaboration. both are visible.
compute composite with confidence intervals
a weighted composite score aggregates the six dimensions, but the weights can be adjusted per role. an engineering role might weight cognitive reasoning and domain knowledge more heavily. a client facing role might weight communication and collaboration. the composite carries its own confidence interval so the hiring team knows how confident the ranking is.
update as the pool grows
as new candidates enter the pool, every existing candidate is re evaluated against the updated data. rankings are not frozen after the first interview. they evolve with the pool, and confidence intervals tighten as the model sees more data.
